History

Club History

The Stephens Greythorn Cricket Club was established in 1960 and played its first games in the 1960/1961 Eastern Suburbs Churches Cricket Association season. Fred Ray initiated the formation of the club in response to a request from the St. Stephens Greythorn Church of England Boys' Society, of which he was the Branch Governor.

The club initially entered one team in the Junior under 16 section and one in the C2 senior section of the Eastern Churches Cricket Association to secure the use of our home ground Leigh Park North Balwyn, ensuring a senior team would be available for the boys as they grew older. The parents of the CEBS boys, along with leaders and other church members, including the minister, comprised the players for the senior side. The Minister of St. Stephens served as the club's president until it was incorporated in 2015.

The club has achieved 22 premiership flags in its history, across both Senior and Junior competitions, with the most recent being in the 2020/2021 season for the LOC4 team, which had an unbeaten season.
